Have you ever wondered what a server is? Maybe you’ve heard it in terms of website hosting or multiplayer Minecraft worlds but you don’t actually know how it works or why it’s important. Servers are powerful computers, but they are not the same as desktops. In this video, you will learn all about servers, and especially how they are different from desktops.
The biggest difference between a server and a desktop is that servers provide services whereas desktops use them. The term dedicated server means the server exists for one specific purpose, usually to host something, such as a website. When desktops access websites or multiplayer Minecraft worlds, they can do so thanks to the server keeping those things running and available. As a result, servers are often much more powerful than desktops, working hard to ensure that desktops have the access they need to other things.
